Antiques, Fine Art, Vintage & Upcycled Goods Policy
This policy explains the particular characteristics of antiques, fine art, vintage and individually upcycled pieces.
Last updated: 15 October 2026
Purpose and ownership
We curate antiques, fine art, vintage and individually upcycled furniture and decorative goods. Stock is owned and sold by The Collection Room Ltd, not on consignment.
Condition and sold as seen
Age-related wear, patina, fading, previous repairs, replacement parts and variations may be present. “Sold as seen” refers only to accurately described condition and known imperfections; it does not exclude statutory rights. Material defects and known functional limitations are disclosed where reasonably possible.
Condition information
Listings may describe surface wear, restoration, structural repairs, missing parts, replacement fittings, age and materials. Customers are encouraged to inspect in-store or request additional photographs and information before ordering.
Art, authenticity and provenance
Descriptions of artist, maker, period, medium, signature and provenance are based on reasonably available evidence. Uncertain attributions should be identified as such. Independent certificates or valuations are included only where expressly stated. Misdescription remains subject to statutory remedies.
Upcycling and restoration
Restored pieces may be repainted, refinished, reupholstered or fitted with replacement hardware. Known changes affecting appearance, function, stability or safety are described where reasonably possible.
Safety and use
Goods must comply with applicable safety requirements. Decorative antique lighting or electrical items should not be connected or used unless expressly confirmed suitable and appropriately tested. Decorative-only items are described as such.
Measurements and care
Check approximate measurements and delivery access. Protect suitable pieces from excess moisture, heat and prolonged sunlight, follow product-specific guidance, and seek professional advice before major restoration or electrical work.
Colours and photographic representation
We strive to show colours and finishes accurately, but photographs, ambient lighting and screen settings can affect patina, timber, upholstery, paint and artwork. Natural grain, aged surfaces and hand-applied finishes may vary. This does not excuse an inaccurate or materially misleading description.
Availability and value
One-off pieces may not be replaceable. If an accepted order becomes unavailable, we will offer an agreed alternative or refund. We do not guarantee future resale or investment value unless expressly agreed.
Returns and legal rights
No change-of-mind refund is offered for in-store purchases; management may approve a discretionary exchange or credit note. Eligible online orders, including one-of-a-kind goods, retain cancellation rights. Faulty or misdescribed items remain subject to statutory remedies.
Reporting faults
Contact us promptly and provide photographs of the item and packaging where reasonably possible. Avoid repairs or alterations before discussing the issue because they may complicate assessment. Statutory rights are not automatically lost because a report is later or an unrelated alteration was made.
Specialist delivery and returns
Fragile pieces may require specialist transport. For eligible online cancellation of bulky or fragile goods, we will discuss suitable return transport. Properly disclosed direct change-of-mind return costs may be payable by the customer; faulty or misdescribed goods are handled under consumer law.
